What to Pack for a Luxury Safari in Tanzania
What to wear, camera kit, charter-flight luggage rules, and what RAFIKI provides so you don't overpack — a practical packing list for a Tanzania safari.
What to wear
Neutral-coloured layers — khaki, olive, tan, stone or beige. Long sleeves and trousers give sun and insect protection and roll up as the day warms; a warm fleece or down gilet is essential for early-morning drives. Avoid white, camouflage and very dark colours.
Luggage on charter flights
Charter flights to Seronera Airstrip typically allow 15kg per person in a soft-sided bag — hard suitcases cannot be carried. Leave non-essentials in left-luggage storage at your arrival airport or Arusha hotel and collect them on return.
Visas and health
Most nationalities need a Tanzania e-visa ($50 per person, applied for online before departure). Antimalarial prophylaxis is recommended for the Serengeti — consult your doctor or a travel clinic at least four weeks before travel.
What the camp provides
RAFIKI provides much of what you might otherwise carry, so you can travel light and comfortably.
